Narthangai Citron Pickle

Generic Pickles

Popular Pickles handmade, homemade and hygienically bottled by families using fresh local produce and quality ingredients with no added preservatives, colour, flavours or taste enhancers. They are not sundried and must be always stored in the Refrigerator.

Narthangai Citron (bitter orange) pickle is popular among the traditional Telugu-speaking Raju families of Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu. Called Dhongakaya in Telugu spoken at Rajapalayam, Narthangai has a lot of medicinal value. This Pickle is part of the Generic Pickle offerings from Panakam-Tradition in a Bottle.

Narthangai Citron pickle is used by the Telugu Rajus of Rajapalayam to add a tinge of sour taste to various traditional dishes such as Gojju (gravy of vegetables), Bajjhi (mashed vegetables), and Pulla Koora (a hot and sour preparation of ground spinach leaves or other greens to be eaten mixed with rice). Narthangai can be a flavourful substitute for Tamarind in certain food preparations.

Rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and flavonoids, Narthangai Citron increases the appetite, helps in digestion, and cools the body.
